Itinerary: Kutaisi - Tskaltubo - Chiatura - Terjola - Kutaisi

The region of Imereti was originally part of the ancient Colchis kingdom. A legendary place, well known for its abundance of gold, it was here that the Argonauts were said to have travelled to find the Golden Fleece.

"It is up here in the silence that you can feel God's presence."

Departure from Kutaisi in the morning.

The tour starts from visit to kars cave "Prometheus" in Tskaltubo The cave’s history goes back to the Greek myth of Promethus chained inthe Caucasus and the Argonauts’ voyage to Colchis for the Golden Fleece. Consequently, this cave expresses the most mysterious and wonderful world of the Argonauts and Prometheus, after whom the cave was named. Upon finishing the journey, the management provides a boat for leaving the cave. You float and move slowly for 300 meters with accompanied music and beautifully illuminated stalagmites in the background.

After visit to the cave, departure to Chiatura - a small town, located inland, in mountain valley on the banks of Kvirila river.
The main highlights of the place are:

Katskhi pillar - a natural limestone monolith located at the village of Katskhi, near the town Chiatura. The rock, with visible church ruins on its top surface of around 150 m2, has been venerated by locals as the Pillar of Life, symbolizing the True Cross, and has become surrounded by legends.  Its mythical aura made it a place of worship since humans settled this area. Prior to the arrival of Christianity, the pillar served as a pagan holy place for a long time and was most likely used for fertility rites.  The length of the pillar rises upto 42 meters. Women are not allowed to climb to the top.   It was built at the behest of the Baguashi family in the period of 988–1014.
Lunch, and visit to Mghvimevi Monastery is partly carved into the side of a cliff and is difficult to access. The facade of the main temple is decorated with crosses and engravings. Painted frescos of the 13th century are still visible on the northern side of the temple, while the paintings on the southern side date back to the 16th century. The front door is a unique masterpiece of wood carving.
Next visit to Terjola city and wine degustation at a local winery.
Departure back to Kutaisi.
